Stand in Line

When they dropped me off at kindergarten, there was magic in my eyes

In my crackerjacks I got a big surprise.  Full of caramel popcorn and a pack of lies

First thing teacher said was stand in line

But I still can’t find the answer in a rhyme

What lies right before me will be left behind

Will I ever learn to stand in line

When I threw my hat up in the air, I looked around and said now what

They sent me off to college with a new haircut

Pleading all the way just keep your big mouth shut

Remember what we taught you, stand in line

But I still can’t find the answer in a rhyme

What lies right before me will be left behind

Will I ever learn to stand in line

Then one day, gray clouds blew away.  People living with each other; taking care of one & other

They had dignity, they showed charity.

But then I heard my alarm clock and I knew it was a dream.  It was much too good to be.

Can I change what is happening to me

Now I am a man, I drive a tan sedan.  It goes well with my brown briefcase.

Finding it’s still hard putting on my second face.  Just another rat in this endless race.

Trying to survive inside the line.

But I still can’t find the answer in a rhyme

What lies right before me will be left behind

Trying to survive inside the line

But I still can’t find the answer in a rhyme

What lies right before me I will leave behind

Trying to cut out of the line
